For the first time in 26 years, residents and visitors in Maggie Valley will be able to watch as the moon moves fully in front of the sun. The sky will turn into night, the stars will come out, and the air temperatures will cool in the middle of the day. This extremely rare occasion will happen here at approximately 2:35 p.m. on Monday, August 21, and will last for approximately 90 seconds. (Robbinsville NC, about an hours drive from Maggie Valley, will experience the longest period of any other city: two minutes and 35 seconds.) The Chamber will have viewing glasses available for sell as well as several of the businesses around town.
While the total solar eclipse in August is still months away, some WNC communities are already announcing festivals and watching events. This summer's eclipse is a rare event, offering a total eclipse of the sun in 14 states, with the path of totality passing through five Southern states: Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia.
If you want to watch this once-in-a-lifetime event, don’t wait to make your hotel or vacation rental reservations, as viewers are already booking their stay in Maggie Valley.
Great Smoky Mountains National Park's Clingmans Dome event sold out in minutes when tickets went on sale earlier this month.
Several Maggie Valley accommodations will be offering special rates.
You must reference the Eclipse to receive the discount.
