Police Officers find 5-year-old girl in a locked closet

RANDLEMAN -- On Tuesday, officers from the Randleman police department responded to a call reporting that a child was being abused mentally and physically.

 

Upon arrival to the residence, the child inside of the home answered when officers called out her name. They asked if she was okay and she said "no." The police then asked if she needed help and the child said "yes."

The officers found the 5-year-old girl in an locked, empty closet inside the house. There was no food or water, and the girl had bruises, scratches and burns.

 

A police statement said the father, 33-year-old Adam Joshua Byrd and the caretaker, 34-year-old Crystal Dawn Carnahan were charged with negligent child abuse and other crimes.
