Two children die in car accident Tuesday night in Asheville

ASHVILLE -- A deadly crash took the lives of two children Tuesday night on Mills Gap Road.



According to Asheville Police, a 15-year-old boy was driving, his mother in the passenger side in the front seat of the vehicle. It was confirmed that the teen had a learner's permit and speed was not a factor in the accident. Law enforcement found that the driver accidently drove the car off of the road, hitting a tree.

Two children, a 10-year-old and 13-year-old were in the back seat. Everyone was wearing a seat belt. The children in the back seat were killed.

The mother, identified at Jo Gibbs, is a teacher at Asheville City Schools, the two children killed attended the school.

 Asheville Middle School, Asheville High School and SILSA will all have guidance counselors to help friends, students, families, cope with the loss.
