So, I check on Twitter every morning to see what's trending there. I saw something about free land, no way, really?

Turns out, it's true! There are rural areas in need of residents to save their towns, so they are actually offering free land!

City of Lincoln, Kansas.

Free Home Site Program Lincoln, Kansas, is investing ambitiously in the future offering free home sites in a completely new subdivision.
Imagine a 720 square mile county with buffalo, farm animals and wildlife scattered across picturesque hillsides. Imagine that it has 3500 residents and no serious crime - but also local medical care, broadband internet and nine miles of Interstate 70. It exists. Lincoln is its county seat.
This north-central Kansas town has worked since 2002 to create a fully improved subdivision. It has cost roughly two-thirds of a million dollars in local funding. In October 2004, the city council voted to give away the building sites to the first 21 qualified applicants who agree to build homes which comply with city requirements.
The subdivision is in the city limits, near a baseball field, the city park and the new junior-senior high school and athletic facilities. It is an easy walk to the industrial park and medical complex, and not far from either downtown or the golf course. A 45 minute drive takes you to a major regional center for shopping, medical services, colleges, air travel and entertainment.
New subdivision streets, curbs and gutters are finished and the lots are ready for construction. Home sites of various sizes and shapes are connected to two new cul-de-sacs. Underground utilities service each lot.

Wheatfield, Nebraska

Wheatfield Addition is located on the west edge of Elwood Nebraska, and just blocks from the school, parks, and swimming pool. These 110' by 115' lots are part of a homeownership program that makes available to an owner a buildable lot for an owner-occupied residential property and home. Construction must commence within 1 year and be occupied within 2 years of purchase date. These lots are FREE but require a $500 deposit which is refunded at the completion of the home. There is also a $50 building permit fee payable to the Village with a building permit application. A floor plan must be submitted for approval prior to paying the deposit. The Village of Elwood will be offering a down payment assistance program for new construction. The Village of Elwood will give a payment of 10% of the construction cost of the home up to $25,000, upon completion. Construction must be completed within the allotted time and all requirements must be met.

Flagler, Colorado

There's a small town in eastern Colorado that's giving away free land to anyone who will move there. Yes, you heard that right. Free land. All you have to do is stake your claim in their open fields, and Flagler will give it all to you.

Flagler is a small agricultural community—more Midwest than the Rocky Mountains most people think of when they hear "Colorado," but it has a lot to offer. The landscape is flat, and the houses are a bit spread out—but there are plenty of them (with the exception of some recent fires that left a couple areas with little more than charred soil and fence posts).

Flagler is only an hour away from Tulsa and two hours from the Oklahoma border, so if you're looking for a place to call your own that isn't too far from home, Flagler could be for you!

We hope the best for all who move there, we wish these places success!
