On January 12, 2023, the world was shocked by the untimely passing of Lisa Marie Presley, the renowned singer, songwriter, and heir of the legendary Elvis Presley.

At the age of 54, Lisa's death was attributed to the effects of a small bowel obstruction, which was linked to complications arising from bariatric surgery she had undergone several years ago. surgery is a medical procedure aimed at treating obesity by reducing the size of the stomach or altering the digestive process. It has been considered a viable option for individuals struggling with severe obesity and related health issues.

In Lisa Marie Presley's case, authorities stated that her death was primarily caused by a small bowel obstruction, which was traced back to adhesions (scar tissue) that had developed after her bariatric surgery. Adhesions can form when internal tissues and organs heal after surgery, leading to the development of bands of scar tissue that may cause complications if they twist or block the digestive tract. Unfortunately, adhesions are a known long-term complication of bariatric surgery. Toxicology Results The autopsy toxicology results provided additional insights into the circumstances surrounding Lisa Marie Presley's death.

The report showed "therapeutic" levels of oxycodone, a potent opioid pain medication, in her blood. Furthermore, traces of quetiapine, a medication used to treat depression, schizophrenia, or manic episodes, and buprenorphine, another painkiller, were also detected. However, it was determined that these substances were not contributory to her passing. It's crucial to note that "therapeutic" levels of oxycodone suggest that the drug was being used as prescribed, rather than indicating drug abuse or overdose. 

Bariatric surgery, though effective for weight loss in many cases, is not without risks. The development of adhesions after such surgeries is a well-documented complication that can lead to serious medical problems over time. Patients who undergo bariatric procedures should be thoroughly informed about the potential long-term effects and closely monitored to address any emerging complications promptly.
