Washington, D.C. -- Sep 20, 2021  Press Release

Washington, D.C. (September 20, 2021) — On Wednesday, September 22, 2021 at 2:00 p.m., Rep. James E. Clyburn, Chairman of the Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Crisis, will hold a hybrid remote/in-person hearing on pandemic relief programs. The hearing will examine outcomes of these measures and identify further action needed to build a strong, sustainable, and inclusive post-pandemic economy.

The American Rescue Plan and other pandemic relief legislation have delivered assistance to millions of Americans, dramatically cutting poverty and reducing food insecurity. These programs, however, were only designed as temporary stopgap measures to provide a lifeline during an unprecedented crisis. Further legislation is needed to prevent a reversal of the progress that has been achieved and reduce the economic inequities that Americans faced even before the pandemic. With the Delta variant continuing to spread across the country and slow the economic recovery, swift action is essential.

During the hearing, experts will explore the effectiveness, efficiency, and equity of pandemic relief programs, assess the current economic situation, and recommend further steps for Congress to take to ensure no one is left behind as America works to emerge from the pandemic and build a post-pandemic economy that is better for all.
