News -- March 15, 2022: The United States Senate has enacted a bill that will make Daylight Saving Time

permanent across the country. The Sunshine Protection Act still needs to pass the House, but if it does,
it will put a stop to changing the clocks twice a year, as well as the dreary early afternoon darkness that occurs
during the winter.

In 2021, Republican Senator Marco Rubio reintroduced the Sunshine Protection Act. Permanent Daylight Saving Time, according to Rubio, will help to reduce pedestrian accidents, crime, seasonal depression, and childhood obesity.

According to co-sponsor Democratic Senator Ron Wyden, the bill is "commonsense."

Last year, Wyden remarked, "Springing forward and falling back year after year simply causes unnecessary uncertainty while damaging Americans' health and our economy." "Making Daylight Saving Time permanent would provide people an extra hour of sunlight throughout the winter months, when we really need it."

This year's daylight saving time began on Sunday, March 13 and will end on Sunday, November 6. The bill pushes back the start of permanent DST until November 2023, giving airlines and railroads more time to change their timetables.
