Shots Fired Near Duke Energy Hydro Station in South Carolina

Kershaw County S.C. -- December 8, 2022: After gunfire was reported close to the Wateree
Hydro Station in Kershaw County,

deputies opened an investigation.

Sheriff Lee Boan claims that the incident took place on Wednesday at 5 o'clock.

According to Boan, WACH Fox News received a complaint that someone had fired a gun into some nearby woods from the passenger side of a car. Investigators don't currently believe the shooter meant to cause any harm to the power facility.

Statement Released by Duke Energy

"We are aware of reports of gunfire near the Wateree Hydro Station in Ridgeway, SC. No individuals were harmed. There are no outages reported. There is no known property damage at this time. We are working closely with the FBI on this issue."

Days before, a shooting at a power substation in North Carolina left thousands without electricity.

The FBI has entered the investigation into the shootings because authorities think they were a planned attack.

At this time, authorities don't have any suspect information for the shooting near the hydroelectric facility.
