HENDERSONVILLE – Department of Transportaion September 22, 2021

A section of Interstate 26 West will be closed Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights.

Motorists will be detoured onto Asheville Highway (U.S. 25) where traffic signals will be modified by the N.C. Department of Transportation to handle the increased traffic.

I-26 West will be closed from U.S. 64 (Exit 49) to U.S. 25 Business (Exit 44) starting no earlier than 8 p.m. each night. The interstate will reopen no later than 6 a.m., and will likely open much earlier on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Traffic will be diverted, via the Integrated Corridor Management (ICM) system, to U.S. 64 West then north on Asheville Highway (U.S. 25) back to I-26. The ICM system will provide longer green times at traffic signals to accommodate the additional interstate traffic.

On Wednesday night, contract crews will begin setting beams on I-26 over Clear Creek. On Friday night, crews will continue setting beams and conclude the operation. These plans are weather-dependent and subject to change.

Transportation officials advise drivers to slow down, obey all posted traffic signs and remain alert in work zones.
