Take a journey through Great Smoky Mountains National Park to see Manitoban elk if you're searching for a unique experience. In 2001, these magnificent creatures were successfully restored into the western North Carolina mountains. Elk have begun to wander into Maggie Valley, according to locals, but you're more likely to see them in the Cataloochee Valley, inside the park, at dawn or dark.

Maggie Valley's foliage is at its most vivid from early October through early November. Colors are brightest at higher elevations. Hikers and leaf-watchers will be able to witness vivid reds, golds, oranges, and yellows!
No matter when you arrive, you'll be wowed by scenery that can only be found in the Smokies!
