The fall season brings along welcomed changes to the Smoky Mountains. While we’re sad to see summer go, the lower temperatures make enjoying the outdoors here even more enticing, along with the cascade of warm colors that engulf the landscape. Photo Credit: Marjorie Farrington   

One of the most haunted places in North Carolina is Lydia’s Bridge in Greensboro. Local legend states that a young woman named Lydia crashed on the bridge on her way home from a dance with her date.

Because of the range of elevations in and around Asheville, we are lucky to have an extended color season. You can experience fall color from September through mid-November. Our fall foliage experts tell us that when Western North Carolina has a wet summer, we’ll have an extended fall color season this year.

If the current long-range weather forecast of close-to-normal weather conditions pans out, the mountains of Western North Carolina should produce a typically bright display of fall leaf color this year – enough to satisfy both the region’s residents and the thousands of visitors who travel in for nature’s annual show.
