WNC -- Motorists and outdoor enthusiasts can once again enjoy a significant stretch of the Blue Ridge Parkway south of Asheville, as officials reopened a crucial 38-mile section on Friday, August 22nd. The reopening restores a continuous driving experience from near the Folk Art Center all the way to just south of the popular Graveyard Fields area.
The newly accessible segment, which includes the scenic French Broad River overlook near the North Carolina Arboretum, had been closed for repairs following extensive damage caused by Hurricane Helene. The storm triggered over 55 landslides along a 200-mile portion of the iconic scenic byway.The primary focus of the closure was a major landslide at milepost 401.5, in the vicinity of Ferrin Knob Tunnel No. 3.
