Haywood County -- December 20, 2025: A routine traffic stop conducted by the Haywood County Sheriff’s Office Crime Suppression Unit escalated into a significant drug and weapons bust this week, resulting in the arrest of a local man.
The investigation began when detectives pulled over a vehicle driven by Phillip Burnette of Canton. During the initial roadside interaction, detectives discovered approximately two grams of methamphetamine and a quantity of marijuana on Burnette’s person.Following the discovery, Burnette was advised of his Miranda rights. According to investigators, he then admitted to possessing a much larger cache of illegal items—including approximately 40 grams of crystal methamphetamine and several firearms
