Obeying North Carolina's School Bus LawsNC law is very clear about stopping for school buses. When a school bus stops and activates its flashing red lights and extended stop arm, drivers must stop. The rules on which traffic must stop depend on the road type:Two-lane roads: All traffic, both following and oncoming, must stop. This also applies to a two-lane road with a center turning lane.Four-lane roads without a median: All traffic, both following and oncoming, must stop.Divided highways or ro
