Running as a Democrat, Ager is drawing on his extensive experience in the local agricultural sector to frame his campaign around the economic and environmental challenges facing Western North Carolina.
A central theme of Ager's campaign is his personal experience dealing with the fallout of Hurricane Helene. The storm severely damaged his family's farm, Hickory Nut Gap, including the destruction of miles of fencing. Ager has spoken about how his farm became a hub for the community in the storm's immediate aftermath, providing food and a gathering place for neighbors who were without power or telecommunications. He also highlights how his farm's regenerative grazing practices helped prevent sig
