WNC -- September 15, 2025: Western North Carolina residents are urged to learn about Chagas disease, sometimes known as "kissing bug disease."
While no locally acquired human cases have been reported in North Carolina, the insect responsible for transmitting the parasite has been found in the state, and public health officials are increasing awareness nationwide.Chagas disease is a potentially serious illness caused by the parasite Trypanosoma cruzi.
