North Carolina -- January 5, 2025: For decades, North Carolinians who were adopted faced a unique bureaucratic hurdle: while most residents could simply visit their local courthouse to retrieve a birth certificate, adoptees were often forced to navigate a centralized, time-consuming process through the state office in Raleigh.
That era of "Raleigh-only" access has officially come to an end.The Haywood County Register of Deeds, joining offices across the state, has announced that North Carolina now offers improved local access to adoptive birth certificates.
