Buncombe County -- December 3, 2025: Buncombe County Health and Human Services (BCHHS) is alerting the public to a significant rise in varicella, commonly known as chickenpox, cases across children and teens in the area. Health officials stress that this wholly preventable uptick is directly linked to low vaccination rates, allowing a disease that had been largely controlled to gain a dangerous foothold.
