Marshall -- October 16, 2025: In a direct response to the "catastrophic flooding" unleashed by Hurricane Helene last fall, Governor Josh Stein today announced $6 million in grants from the state's Flood Resiliency Blueprint program, with significant funding earmarked for projects in the devastated French Broad River Basin of Western North Carolina.
Standing in Marshall, Governor Stein highlighted the critical need for proactive preparation in the face of increasingly severe weather events. "Last year’s flooding of the French Broad River after Helene is a somber reminder of how damaging flooding can be to an area," said Governor Stein.
