WNC -- August 19, 2025: In a display of solidarity and a commitment to shared learning in the face of natural disasters, a delegation of local leaders from Western North Carolina traveled to Kerr County, Texas, this week to offer support and insights on disaster recovery following the devastating floods that ravaged the Texas Hill Country in July.
The trip, supported by the American Flood Coalition, brought together key figures from the Western North Carolina Recovery and Resilience Partnership (WNC Partnership), a coalition formed in the aftermath of Hurricane Helene to bolster flood preparedness across the region.The delegation included Lake Lure Mayor Susan Pritchett, Marshall Mayor Aaron Haynie, Avery County Commission Vice Chairman Dennis Aldridge, and Asheville City Councilmember Maggie Ullman.
