WNC-- August 27, 2025: A veteran from Western North Carolina who made national headlines for a fiery confrontation with Rep. Chuck Edwards (R-NC) this past March is back in the spotlight after his arrest for burning an American flag in front of the White House. Jay Carey, of Arden, was taken into custody on Monday, August 25, hours after an executive order was signed aimed at penalizing those who burn the flag.
He specifically addressed the new executive order in his protest, saying, "No president can make a law, period! No Congress can make a law infringing on First Amendment rights.
