WNC Visit: Governor Stein Highlights Student Program and Helene Recovery Efforts

WNC -- August 21, 2025: Supporting the Next Generation of Health Care Workers: Governor Stein toured the school's inaugural Healthcare Fellows program, a partnership between Henderson County Public Schools, Blue Ridge Community College, AdventHealth Hendersonville, and UNC Health Pardee. The program provides full financial support to students preparing for careers in health care at Blue Ridge Community College.
The Governor emphasized the urgent need for more health care professionals in the state. “North Carolina has the eighth-worst nursing shortage in the nation, and rural communities don’t have enough access to primary care, behavioral health, and dental services,” said Stein.He also called on the General Assembly to pass a full budget for the 2025-2027 biennium.
