Buncombe County -- Buncombe County Government Community News: March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day and there are a lot of

ways to celebrate. Many people choose to celebrate by wearing green; a tradition started by Irish settlers as a way to remind them of their Irish heritage. According to Irish folklore, green is also worn on St. Patrick’s day as a way to become invisible to Leprechauns and avoid their pinches. Be sure to wear a clover green mask this St. Patrick’s Day!

In his latest order, Governor Cooper further loosened restrictions on indoor seating for bars and restaurants. Bars are now open for indoor seating at 30% capacity and restaurants are open for indoor dining at 50% capacity. Our communities are reopening because rates of COVID have continued to stabilize since the holiday spike. This trend will continue as long as rates of COVID-19 remain stable or ideally, decrease.

There are a few simple and highly effective ways to partake in St. Patty’s Day festivities while making sure that our communities stay healthy and continue reopening.

Wear your mask. It’s the most effective way to reduce the spread of COVID-19.
Wash your hands often.
Reduce close contact with others outside of your household. It is safer to celebrate outdoors and at least 6 feet from others who are not in your immediate household.
Do you remember what celebrating was like in 2019? It was amazing. Practice these three simple steps to move our community one step closer to celebrating like it is 2019 again!
