Mother arrested in stabbing of 5-year-old daughter

Henderson County -- Henderson County Sheriff's Office Aprile 25, 2021: At approximately 8:43am on Sunday April 25, 2021

officers with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a stabbing at a residence on Fiesta Lane in the Fruitland Community.

This is an on-going investigation as the scene is being processed and interviews are being conducted. It is an isolated incident and there is no further danger to the public.

Fiesta Lane stabbing investigation
At approximately 8:43am on Sunday April 25, 2021 officers with the Henderson County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a report of a stabbing at 265 Fiesta Lane. Once officers and emergency personnel arrived at the residence, it was determined the victim, a 5 year old female, had succumbed to the injuries she had received.
As a result of the investigation, it was determined the suspect of the stabbing was the mother of the child.
Penny Short Hartle, 50 of Hendersonville has been arrested and charged with 2nd Degree Murder. Hartle received no bond and she will have a first appearance on Monday April 26th.
