Haywood County -- FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE - April 26, 2021 Haywood County Health and Human Services:

Haywood County reports 96-98th COVID-19 deaths

Haywood County Health and Human Services have received notice of three more COVID-19 deaths, bringing the total number now to 98.

One individual’s death occurred back in early February. This individual was between the ages of 65-70 and died at Haywood Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. COVID-19 was listed as an underlying cause (disease or injury that initiated the events resulting in death).

It is Haywood County policy to await the official death certificate for confirmation of a COVID-19 death. The delay in reporting this death was due to the delayed arrival of the death certificate.

The second individual was also between the ages of 65-70. COVID-19 listed as an underlying cause (disease or injury that initiated the events resulting in death).

The third individual was between the ages of 45-50 and died at Haywood Regional Medical Center.  COVID-19 is listed as the immediate and sole cause of death.

To protect the families’ privacy, no further information about the patients will be released.

“We at Haywood County Health and Human Services extend our deepest sympathies to the families and loved ones during this time of loss,” said Health Director Sarah Henderson.
“COVID-19 is a serious and sometimes deadly illness. We ask everyone to consider the pain and loss this virus can bring with it and do everything you can to help prevent its spread.”

“We urge everyone to continue to be vigilant about masking and social distancing any time you’re going to be around anyone who doesn’t live in your household. Wash your hands regularly, and stay home if you’re not feeling well,” said Henderson.
