Buncombe County -- Buncombe County Community News May 21, 2021

We are excited to announce that Asheville City Schools will be hosting a COVID-19 Vaccination Clinic next Saturday, May 22nd from 9:00 AM - 4:00 PM.  In partnership with Buncombe County Health & Human Services, Asheville City Schools, Buncombe County Schools, and StarMed (a State mobile vaccine provider), the no-cost, walk up clinic will be held at Asheville Middle School located at 211 South French Broad Avenue in Downtown Asheville.  The Johnson & Johnson vaccine as well as the first dose of the Pfizer vaccine will be available.

Regardless of whether you have a school-aged child or are a valued member of our community, all North Carolinians ages 12 and older are welcome to attend.

No sign-up is required to attend the May 22nd Vaccination Clinic at Asheville Middle School.

The Day of the Vaccine Clinic:

Please wear a face covering and practice proper social distancing.
After parking, follow the signs to Asheville Middle School and check-in with the greeters.
No ID or specific documents are needed when someone arrives to get a vaccine.  Instead, the person being vaccinated will receive a form to fill out that asks basic questions, including their name, date of birth and health status.  However, if you have an insurance card, please bring it with you to the clinic.
The staff will review your information to ensure that you are cleared for the vaccine. A medical professional will review your health status if indicated.
Once your health information has been reviewed, you will move to the vaccination station for your vaccination.  You will receive a second dose reminder card if you’ve been inoculated with the first Pfizer vaccine.
Please note that those who receive the vaccine will be required to stay at the clinic for 15 - 30  minutes after being inoculated to monitor for any adverse reactions.
If you are unable to attend this Saturday’s clinic at Asheville Middle School but are looking for additional providers that offer the Pfizer vaccine, go to MySpot.nc.gov and filter for “Pfizer.”  You can also get a walk-in vaccine by visiting the Buncombe County Vaccination Clinic or you can schedule an appointment by visiting www.buncombeready.org or by calling the Ready Team at (828) 419-0095.

Quick FAQ:

There were no shortcuts in the development of the COVID vaccines. The Pfizer vaccine has been thoroughly tested for safety and effectiveness and has been approved for distribution to everyone 12 and up.
The Pfizer vaccine requires 2 doses- given 3 weeks apart from one another for the most protection. You are considered fully vaccinated 2 weeks after the second shot. Until then, please continue to practice social distancing and wearing a mask until you are fully protected.
If you or your child need additional vaccinations, you do not have to wait 2 weeks. The medical professional on site or your medical provider can advise you on an immunization plan.
Everyone who receives the vaccine will be given a second dose card on which will be written the date, time, and location of their second dose. Hold onto your vaccine card or take a picture of it with your phone. Please try to bring it with you to the second dose appointment.
Minor side effects are common after the vaccine including:

Pain, redness, and swelling around the injection site
Tiredness
Headache
Muscle pain
Chills
Fever
Nausea
All side effects are often minor and go away within 3 days. The vaccine does not contain the live virus and cannot give you COVID-19 nor does the vaccine interact with DNA in any way.
Come out to AMS on Saturday, May 22nd between 9AM and 4PM to receive your COVID-19 vaccine and do your part to reopen our community and help us #BringSummerBack. There is a vaccine for you here in Buncombe County
