Haywood County -- August 18, 2021 Haywood County Sheriff's Office provided an update on Emergency Shelter this morning.

Wnctimes will follow updates in Haywood County as the area was hit hard due to Tropical Storm Fred.

Those needing Emergency Shelter who are able to drive are encouraged to move toward the following locations:
Tuscola High School — 564 Tuscola School Rd, Waynesville, NC 28786
The shelter at Canton First Baptist is closing. Anyone still there is being moved to the THS shelter.
Please make your way to the THS shelter if you are able.
Those with pets: If you need to shelter with a pet try to bring:
Crate
Food
Meds
Leash

Those needing Emergency Shelter and are able to drive are encouraged to carefully move toward the following locations:
Tuscola High School — 564 Tuscola School Rd, Waynesville, NC 28786
Canton First Baptist — 74 Academy St, Canton, NC 28716
If you are able, move to higher ground immediately!
If you see rising water do not attempt to evacuate. Shelter in place.
Move to your roof or highest point and call 911.
Bring food, medicine, and supplies for 24.
Avoid driving if possible and do not drive through standing water.
