Asheville -- September 20, 2021 Asheville Police reported a child injured during a shooting Monday morning.

The report was made around 10:00 am. on Bingham Road in Asheville.

According to the report, the mother and her infant were also in the apartment, but were not harmed. The child was sleeping and the injuries were caused by glass fragments from the shooting.

The shooting incident occured at around 6:15 am, police found `18  9mm shell casings outside of the apartment.

A second apartment was damaged by the shooting.

An early morning shooting into an occupied apartment caused minor injuries to a child and left a mother and her infant unharmed. 

The child, who was sleeping at the time of the shooting, was injured by glass fragments. Eighteen 9mm shell casings were located outside the apartment on Bingham Road. A second occupied apartment was also damaged by gunshots, no one was injured. 

This happened around 6:15 a.m. on September 19.

Since January 1, 2021, the Asheville Police Department has responded to 408 calls for service reporting shots fired or someone being shot. In addition, 27 people have been shot in Asheville this year.
