Asheville -- April 12, 2022: An Asheville man was arrested on Friday and is facing charges related to social media messages he directed at Bakari Sellers. Sellers is a South Carolina civil rights attorney, former  South Carolina House of Representative (D) member and now CNN analyst. 

Grant Edward Olson Jr., 48, was arrested for stalking and assaults or intimidation based on political ideas or the exercise of civil rights, according to the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division.

According to the arrest warrants, Olson Jr. posted roughly 65 Instagram messages containing racist slurs, the killing of Afican Americans, and that Olson Jr. was armed.

According to the warrants, Olson Jr. sent the texts to an attorney who is a registered lobbyist and promotes his political opinions on television.

Sellers, released a statement yesterday after Olson's arrest. I want to thank SLED Chief Mark Keel, Behavioral Science Director Mike Prodan and all the officers at SLED for their quick and decisive action in protecting me and my family," Sellers said. "They have not only demonstrated the highest standards of commitment and professionalism, but they proved once again how critical it is that we support and fund this important work."

Olson was booked at the Alvin S. Glenn Detention Center and his case will be prosecuted by the 5th Circuit Solicitor’s Office.
