Fletcher -- June 16, 2020: A Death in Custody that occurred in the parking lot of 352 Seasons Circle on June 15, 2022

is the subject of an inquiry. After responding to a 911 call for assistance, officers encountered Christopher Robert Hensley, 35. The Fletcher Police and Hensley engaged in a struggle. After being handcuffed, Hensley lost consciousness. Later, Hensley passed away at the hospital.

About 8:30 p.m., officers were called to the apartment complex. The caller informed Hensley would not let her to go and was likely under the influence of drugs.  There was a fight between Fletcher Police Officers and Hensley. Officers of the Fletcher Police Department requested assistance from the Henderson County Sheriff's Office.

After being handcuffed and brought into custody, Hensley ceased to respond. Hensley was taken to the hospital, where he died, after officers began CPR and called for emergency medical services. Also sent to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries were two police officers.

The investigation has been turned over to the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation.
