Asheville -- June 23, 2022: A robber armed with a knife who threatened store employees was apprehended over the weekend by a store clerk armed with a firearm. Christopher Gene Hagan, 37, was arrested late on Friday night after attempting to rob

a gas station in West Asheville with a knife. Hagan was stopped by an armed staff member and subsequently arrested by officers of the Asheville Police Department.

On June 17, just before midnight, APD Patrol Officers responded to a shoplifting incident that soon escalated into an armed robbery at the One Stop on 448 Haywood Rd. After employees challenged Hagan as he attempted to conceal products in his clothing, he brandished a knife with a razor blade and moved toward two employees, including the store owner.
One of the gas station clerks drew a firearm and ordered Hagan to stay away from the personnel.

Upon arrival, APD police saw Hagan in a standoff with the cashier while still carrying his knife; numerous spectators were also present. Officers swiftly apprehended Hagan. No one was hurt during the incident. Despite the fact that the knife and many extra razor blades were discovered during an initial search of Hagan, he hid a another blade and unsuccessfully attempted to access it while being brought to jail.
