Rutherford County -- July 1, 2022: Rutherford County Animal Shelter Sends Out Message of Hardship and Heartache
The people who really care for these awesome animals are heartbroken breaking promises made to them.

Please read what they posted on Facebook. Spay/Neuter your pet and keep up with rabies vaccine. For those able to, please volunteer, foster and help spread the word:

Rutherford County Animal Shelter June 30, 2022:

Here at animal control we believe transparency is important. 137 pets are at the shelter at this time. We are busting at the seams.

Prior to today…we were already full. Then we were bombarded with 17 dogs and 7 cats who arrived needing refuge. There was no room. By law we couldn’t turn them away. We were faced with an unimaginable choice. Resources we utilized. And yet we had nowhere to put these animals. 11 dogs lost their lives today. 11 dogs were no longer were able to hold. 11 dogs who we broke our word to find their forever home.

Our staff has spent countless days forming relationships with these dogs and this breaks our hearts. Simply put we are limited with space, we are limited by staff and we are fighting this battle. This was a hard day for the shelter but a harder day for the county. Spay/neuter your pets, keep your rabies vaccines for your pet current, if you have to rehome your pet don’t wait until it’s the last day to find them a home, share education, help your neighbors, help rescues, and help us.

We did not have to euthanize any cats today thanks to an amazing rescue partner who will be helping by rescuing 25+ cats and kittens. From the bottom of our hearts we are thankful for all of our rescue partners near and far!

Wnctimes hopes we help by posting their message. We love animals and have great respect for those who take care of them.
