Washington -- July 14, 2022: Ivana Trump, the first wife of former U.S. President Donald Trump and the mother of his three eldest children, passed away on Thursday at the age of 73.

Ivana Trump passed yesterday at her residence in New York City, Trump said in a statement on the social media platform Truth Social. "I am deeply heartbroken to notify all of those who loved her, of which there were many, of her passing," Trump said.

The pair wed in 1977 and separated in 1992. Together, they had three children: Donald Jr., Ivanka, and Eric.

"Ivana Trump was a survivor. She fled from communism and embraced this country. She taught her children about grit and toughness, compassion and determination," the Trump family said in a statement. She grew up under Communist rule in the former Czechoslovakia.
Neither the Trump family statement nor the former president's article indicated the cause of her passing.

Ivana Trump, a former model who had trained for the Czechoslovakian junior national ski team, helped construct the Trumps' public image in the 1980s, when they were one of New York City's most powerful couples.

Their divorce, which followed Donald Trump's widely publicized romance with Marla Maples, whom he subsequently wed, was fodder for New York tabloids.

The New York Times noted that shortly after their marriage, Ivana Trump played a significant part in growing the Trump family firm, while Donald Trump received credit for his early success breaking into Manhattan's extremely competitive real estate market.

According to the Times, she collaborated with her husband in the development of Trump Tower, his iconic structure on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, and other high-profile ventures such as the Trump Taj Mahal Casino Resort in Atlantic City, New Jersey.

While raising their three children, Ivana Trump served as vice president of interior design for the Trump Organization and oversaw the famous Plaza Hotel, which her husband acquired in 1988.

The Trump family stated in a statement, "Our mother was an incredible woman - a force in business, a world-class athlete, a radiant beauty, and caring mother and friend."
Her mother, her three children, and ten grandkids survive Ivana Trump.
