Asheville -- August 17, 2022: Detectives from the Asheville Police Department are looking into
an armed robbery that took place after midnight on August 14

when a man and a woman were held up at gunpoint outside a store in the River Arts District.

Around 2 a.m. on Sunday, patrol officers were sent to the 100 block of Roberts Street in regard to an armed robbery. The two victims reported that two males in hoodies and masks approached them with guns drawn and demanded money from them. The suspects stole the man's wallet, the woman's purse, as well as their cellphones. The suspects then grabbed the woman's automobile, which was parked nearby, and her car keys from her purse.
After searching the area, patrol officers were able to find the stolen car on the 100 block of Riverside Drive, roughly half a mile away. Unlocked and searched, the vehicle.
Detectives from the Criminal Investigations Division are looking into this matter and are requesting any information from members of the public. The suspects, according to the victims, were two younger black males who approached them from the building's side.
