How to resolve AdBlock issue? 
Orange County -- September 21, 2022: The Orange County Sheriff, Charles Blackwood, said this afternoon that the investigation into the deaths of 18-year-old Devin Clark and 14-year-old Lyric Woods
led them to file a petition for two counts of first-degree murder against a 17-year-old. The petition was filed this afternoon by people from the Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention who work in the juvenile court.
Sheriff Blackwood said, "Sheriff Blackwood said, “Through the hard work of my investigators, along with the assistance of personnel from many other law enforcement agencies, we have identified a suspect in this case. We will now work with local, state, and federal authorities to apprehend and present the suspect to the court system.”
Starting on December 1, 2019, 16- and 17-year-olds who break the law in North Carolina will no longer be automatically charged as adults. If a 16- or 17-year-old commits a Class A-G felony and there is a notice of indictment or the court finds probable cause, a district court judge must send the case to superior court. A Class A felony is first-degree murder.
Sheriff Blackwood also said, “I want to thank the families of Devin Clark and Lyric Woods for trusting us and the investigative process during this excruciatingly painful time. I hope the imminent apprehension of this subject will bring them some comfort as they mourn their loved ones.”
There is an active task force program in the Orange County Sheriff's Office (OCSO). The OCSO works with many other law enforcement agencies through agreements between them. When it's necessary, different agencies work together to solve crimes by combining their skills, talents, and years of experience.
Blackwood said, "I will always be thankful for the partnerships we have with local, state, and federal organizations. I'd like to thank the Alamance County Sheriff's Office, the Burlington Police Department, the Efland Fire Department, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and the Viper Unit of the North Carolina State Highway Patrol for their help.
