Asheville -- September 22, 2022: Wednesday evening, Asheville Police Department Patrol Officers arrested a man for hitting another man with a baseball bat and attempting to torch his tent

while he was inside. The suspect fled when the police arrived, but was quickly apprehended after a concerted search by Patrol Officers.

Last night at approximately 9:00 p.m., APD officers were dispatched to the 200 block of Tunnel Road to investigate a civil disturbance at a nearby campsite. The victim reported that a man attacked him with a baseball bat, doused him and his tent with lighter fluid while he was inside, and attempted to set his tent ablaze.
Jason Porter (03/07/1988) was arrested and charged with Assault with Intent to Kill, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Second Degree Trespassing, Resist, Delay or Obstruct, and Assault on a Government Official. He was transported for medical evaluation to Mission Hospital.
The victim was provided with medical care by the Buncombe County EMS.
