Asheville -- June 16, 2023: The Asheville Police Department announced in a news release Thursday, the arrest of a man for 5 counts of 2nd Degree Child Exploitation last week after discovering that he possessed over 10,000 files depicting minors engaging in sexual activities.

The investigation began with a report from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and lasted approximately one year. The 71-year-old Dennis Joe Voss was apprehended on June 8, 2023. Members of the APD Computer Crimes Unit (CCU) and the North Carolina Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, along with SBI agents, discovered evidence that Voss was using a file-sharing service to distribute Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) files, also known as 'child porn.'

A search warrant was executed on Voss's apartment in South Asheville, where additional evidence corroborating his involvement was discovered. Once the extensive computer forensic analysis was finished, APD CCU Detectives were able to obtain warrants for five counts of 2nd Degree Child Exploitation. The analysis produced more than 10,000 CSAM files.

Voss was booked into the Buncombe County Detention Facility under a $100,000 secured bond issued by the magistrate.
