Two Die in Chase by Asheville Police

Asheville -- September 25, 2023: Early on Saturday morning Asheville Police attempted to stop a 2021 Dodge Challenger fitting the description of a car that was driving away from the scene of a downtown assault.

Officers found the car close by, down an embankment on Hilliard Avenue, while checking the immediate area.  Both the driver, Darriann Chantel Waters, and the passenger, Maurice Dijon Jones, died at the scene from their injuries; notice has been sent to their next of kin.

The District Attorney's Office for Buncombe County has been contacted and will help with the review.
