City of Asheville: Is that a chill in the air or something more? Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) casts a spell on the city with kooky, spooky, and scary events throughout October.

Browse the highlights below and use these resources to find hundreds of additional opportunities including free games meetups and clubs, exercise and sports, arts and crafts, and more throughout the month!

 Kooky, Crafting, and Canines Get crafty using natural materials at Nature Crafts: Fairy Garden on October 2.

It’s mostly treats and a few dog tricks during Barktoberfest on October 8 and Canine Trick or Treat on October 14.
Foster creativity during Toddler Discovery Time with Bippity Boppity Boo on October 10, Fall Frolic on October 17, and Ghouls and Boils on October 31 and join the Kooky Spooky Toddler Party on October 20.
Therapeutic Recreation Adult Crafting & Cooking hosts pumpkin carving on October 10, apple cider making on October 17, and Halloween mask design on October 24.
Prizes and fun await at Halloween Bingo on October 31. Wear your costume!
 

Spooky, Skating, and Seniors
It’s spooky how beautiful crafts can be made from simple items at Dollar Décor DIY, creating apothecary bottles on October 4 and fabric pumpkin centerpieces on October 18.
A seasonal celebration for adults 50 and better, Senior Fall Festival features crafts, food, games, and more on October 14.
Take on a new persona and work with others to solve a crime at Murder Mystery Party on October 19.
Bounce, rock, skate, and roll to a supernatural soundtrack in your costume during Spooky Skate Night on October 20.
Perfect your dink shot at Pickleball Nights each Tuesday and the monthly Pickleball Beginner Clinic on October 20 to prepare for the Halloween Pickleball Tournament on October 26.
Get an early start on the holiday with pumpkin carving, face painting, costume contests, and more at Southside Halloween Festival on October 23.
Show off your costume, climb for candy, and play ghoulish games during Halloween Creepy Climbing on October 29.
 

Scary, Socializing, and Showstoppers
Venture into the unknown and try to unsee the unexplainable at Haunted Castle on the Hill on October 27 and October 28. Take the fright out of meeting new people with Outdoor Social Sampler for young adults ages 18-30, Treks Hiking Club for adults 50 and up, Teen Leadership programs, Burton Street Running Club, and open gym times for pick-up basketball and volleyball.
Learning something new doesn’t have to be terrifying. Join others at Teen Cuisine, Tykes on Bikes, Shuffleboard Mornings, Intro to Golf, Birding by Ear, Art & Soul, Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day, and Intro to Senior Games Sports.
Show stage fright the door when you step into the spotlight during the B-Street 3-Point Competition and Poetry Night or register for youth basketball and adult basketball leagues.
