Illegal Dumping at Convenience Centers in Rutherford County

Rutherford County -- January 17, 2024: An increase in incidents has been reported wherein individuals are dumping garbage outside the entrances of convenience centers in Rutherford County during the day when the centers are closed.

Notably, this behavior is characterized by the definition of LITTERING.

On 01/16/2024, the Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office responded to multiple reports of littering at multiple convenience centers. All of the incidents were committed on Monday 01-15-2024 when the convenience centers were closed in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. These acts were investigated and resulted in several subjects being ARRESTED for littering. The

Rutherford County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind everyone that this will not be tolerated, and these actions will be investigated with criminal charges being pursued.

In this case, littering is a Class 3 Misdemeanor and is punishable by a fine of no less than $250.00.
