Haywood County -- NC Cooperative Extension Center News:

Haywood County has a mix of town and countryside, with beautiful views of mountains and valleys. In one effort to help protect our natural resources, N.C. Cooperative Extension in Haywood County partnered with the N.C. Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services’ Pesticide Disposal Assistance Program to conduct a pesticide collection day on Wednesday, April 28, 2021.

This program provided an opportunity for homeowners and farmers to dispose of unwanted pesticide materials free of charge in an environmentally sound manner. During this single-day event, 392 pesticide containers containing unwanted pesticide materials weighing 1572 pounds were collected.

Additionally, a single business disposed of 2632 pounds of material. In total, a weight of 4204 pounds of pesticides was collected and properly disposed of during this collection event, helping keep our beautiful natural resources safe!
