Western North Carolina -- Friday, January 28, 2022 A cold blast is expected to move into the region Friday,

according to the National Weather Service.

It will be bringing a wintery mix of precipitation, with the potential for snowfall during the afternoon commute.

The National Weather Service is expecting moisture to move in after 1 p.m., starting as snow for higher elevations and transitioning into a mix in the valleys. This will quickly change over to snow, with some areas seeing a burst of snow during the afternoon commute.

This won't be enough to add up to much accumulation, but timing may be an issue. Roads may become slick in the middle of the afternoon drive home, so travel impacts can be expected into Saturday morning.
