Asheville --  Sunday, April 3, 2022: The Asheville Police Department arrested a drug dealer and seized 2.76 pounds

of suspected fentanyl on Thursday afternoon, eliminating more than 625,000 deadly doses of the very strong
poison from Asheville's streets.

Officers detained Jonathan Maurice Logan, Jr.  soon after noon on March 31, 2022, near the 1900 block of
Old Haywood Road in West Asheville.

“After receiving information about Logan’s involvement in drug sales in Asheville, including tips from the Tip411 app, our officers were able to use that information to make the arrest,” said Chief David Zack, Asheville Police Department. “This is a significant drug arrest which removes a large amount of this deadly drug from our streets, much in thanks to the support we receive from the community sharing your tips.”
Fentanyl is a Schedule II banned narcotic that is similar to morphine but 100 times more strong, according to the US Drug Enforcement Administration. According to the DEA, two milligrams of fentanyl can be fatal depending on a person's body size, tolerance, and previous use.
According to the Drug Enforcement Administration, one kilogram of fentanyl has the potential to kill 500,000 people. APD recovered 1.25 kilograms of suspected fentanyl on Thursday, amounting to 625,190 fatal doses. Synthetic opioids (such as fentanyl) are also the leading cause of overdose deaths in the United States, according to the CDC.
Logan was taken to the Buncombe County Facility for booking and is held on a $500,000 bond.

Trafficking in Methamphetamine by Possession (Level II)
Possession with intent to Sell or Deliver Fentanyl
Possession with intent to Sell or Deliver Methamphetamine
Maintain a Dwelling for Controlled Substance
Possess Drug Paraphernalia
$500,000 secured bond
Seized was:
1,250.38 grams of fentanyl
398.11 grams of methamphetamine
$10,976
