ASHEVILLE, NC -- To celebrate Towel Day, May 25, 2022, The Turkish Towel Company will donate a towel to a nonprofit partner for every towel sold on their website. The Fletcher-based company aims to raise awareness of the increasing
need for basic items in animal rescue centers and homeless shelters. Local nonprofit towel partners include Asheville Humane Society, Brother Wolf Animal Rescue, Shepherd’s House, Union County Community Shelter, Coastal Women's Shelter and Western Carolina Rescue Mission.

Towel Day is celebrated every year on 25 May as a tribute to Douglas Adams, author of The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. On Towel Day, Adams fans carry their towels with them in reference to the Guide’s assertion that “a towel… is about the most massively useful thing an interstellar hitchhiker can have.”
“In the book, the towel has both practical and psychological value, as it provides warmth, can be used for multiple purposes and offers a sense of home, no matter where you are,” states Barton Brass, CEO of The Turkish Towel Company. “We thought Towel Day was an excellent opportunity to help raise awareness about the need for towels in shelters and rescue centers in our surrounding community.”
“Towels are an essential daily care item for our animals at Brother Wolf. They provide a soft place to lay, they dry off a wet dog after a bath, and they give kittens a warm place to snuggle together,” said Leah Craig Fieser, Executive Director of Brother Wolf Animal Rescue. “The Turkish Towel Company has supported the animals of Brother Wolf for the past several years with donations of towels and we’re excited to see them expand their impact through this special Towel Day celebration to benefit several local nonprofit organizations.”
Around the world, the day is marked with pictures posted by people of their towels with a #TowelDay hashtag on social media.
