Asheville -- September 18, 2022: The U.S. Attorney for the Western District of North Carolina, Dena J. King, said that Chief U.S. District Judge Martin Reidinger gave Lyron Deshawn Greenlee 102 months in prison

Thursday for his part in breaking into a gun store in Asheville. Greenlee, a 35-year-old man from Asheville, was also given three years of court supervision after he got out of prison.

Bennie Mims, the head of the Charlotte Field Division of the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), and Chief David Zack of the Asheville Police Department (APD) will join U.S. Attorney King in making the announcement.

According to court documents and the sentencing hearing, Greenlee worked with co-defendants Jesse Lynn Williams and Alexa Rae Bassillo to organize and plan the burglary of Carolina Guns and Gear West, LLC (Carolina Guns and Gear), a Federal Firearms Licensee (FFL) at 3106 Sweeten Creek Road in Asheville. Court records show that Williams broke into the gun store on January 7, 2022, and stole 33 guns while Greenlee and Bassillo acted as lookouts or drivers.

According to court documents, Greenlee, Williams, and Bassillo went to Greenlee's house right after the burglary and split up the guns they had stolen. During the investigation, police found that Greenlee had eight of the stolen guns. He sold two of them to his co-defendant, Bernard Eugene Carson, who is not allowed to own a gun because he has been convicted of crimes in the past. So far, police have found eight of the 33 guns that were stolen.

On April 25, 2022, Greenlee admitted to stealing guns from an FFL and helping to steal them. He is in federal custody right now and will be moved to the care of the federal Bureau of Prisons as soon as a federal facility is chosen. Williams, Bassillo, and Carson have all said they are guilty and are now waiting for their sentences.

When U.S. Attorney King made the announcement, he thanked the ATF and APD for their work on the case.

The prosecution is being done by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Asheville.
