Asheville --  July 14,  2022) Wednesday afternoon, detectives and officers from the Asheville Police Department arrested a man in west Asheville for failing to appear in court on sex offenses charges,

as well as for having many outstanding warrants and narcotics charges. Five additional individuals were charged and arrested on warrants.

Yesterday around 3 p.m., officers spotted a known offender, Derek Dewain Carpenter, 23, in the 200 block of Deaverview Road. Carpenter failed to appear in court on a pending rape charge in the county, resulting in the issuance of arrest warrants and pretrial violations. Additionally, he has outstanding warrants for a number of additional crimes, including theft of a firearm and fleeing from police in a stolen vehicle.
Carpenter fled on foot into the surrounding woods after authorities made contact with him; officers pursued and apprehended him, discovering probable methamphetamine and fentanyl on his person.
